Pheu Thai's Prayuth leads in Maha Sarakham by-election: unofficial count

Pheu Thai Party candidate Prayuth Siriphanit was leading his Bhum Jai Thai opponent Komkhai Udornpim by a slight margin in the Maha Sarakham by-election Sunday.

The latest unofficial count showed Prayuth with 110,677 votes against Komkhai's 109,562.

The poll was called to fill the seat for Constituency 1 vacated by Pheu Thai MP Khajit Chainikhom when he was disqualified by the Supreme Court.

Many voters showed up in the morning before travelling back to Bangkok to start work Monday.

Local election officials expect the turnout to be as high as 60 per cent.
