It is not necessary to issue the Internal Security Act (ISA) when red shirts rally near a residence of Privy Councillor Surayud Chulanont in Nakhon Ratchasima on Saturday, Deputy Prime Minister Suthep Thaugsuban said Friday.
Suthep said he would have a meeting with acting National Police Chief Pol Gen Patheep Tanprasert to evaluate the general situation and map out security measures concerning the rally.
The red shirts plan to demonstrate at Surayud's hillside residence at Khao Yai Thiang which they claimed was situated in the forest reserve. The rally is aimed at calling more attention from the public over what they branded as the government's practise of double standard.
They have criticised Abhisit government of ignoring the alleged invasion into the forest reserve by Surayud and his wife.
The deputy premier said he believed that the police alone will be sufficient to maintain law and order and to prevent any clash between the red shirts and local residents who may disagree with the demonstration.
Therefore issuance of the the ISA will not be necessary, Suthep said.
Referring to some news reports that the red shirts may block the Mitrapap Highway, Suthep said that anyone violating the law will be prosecuted
